Transformations and vectors
Lesson 12 of 14
Describing transformations
Objective. Fully describe a single transformation using the required details.
The key idea
Each transformation needs specific information: translation needs a vector, rotation needs angle, direction and centre, reflection needs the mirror line, enlargement needs scale factor and centre.
Worked example
A shape turns 90° clockwise about the origin. Describe it fully.
- 1Name the transformation: rotation.
- 2State angle and direction: 90° clockwise.
- 3State the centre: the origin (0, 0).
Answer: Rotation 90° clockwise about (0, 0)
Practice
Each question comes with a picture and a listen button. Try it first, then reveal the answer.
Common mistake. Describing two transformations when the question asks for a single one.
