Scale and maps
Lesson 5 of 9
Scale drawings
Objective. Produce and interpret a scale drawing of a room or plan.
The key idea
Every length shrinks by the same factor. Angles stay exactly the same, which is why a plan still looks right.
Worked example
A 4 m wall drawn at 1 cm to 50 cm. Drawing length?
- 14 m = 400 cm.
- 2400 ÷ 50 = 8.
Answer: 8 cm
