Learn: the key idea

Final GCSE review draws together algebra, geometry, statistics and probability into connected problems, consolidating fluency across the whole programme rather than practising any single topic in isolation. Approach a review question by first classifying which topics are involved, then applying each relevant technique in a logical order while checking units and reasonableness throughout. Use estimation to sanity-check answers, and revisit any step producing a surprising or impossible result. A strong review response shows full working, states assumptions where needed, and presents a final answer with correct units or appropriate accuracy. This stage is about demonstrating reliable, joined-up understanding under exam conditions.

Worked example

A cone has base radius 3 cm and slant height 5 cm. Find its curved surface area in terms of π.

1 $Use curved surface area = πrl$
2 $Substitute r = 3 and l = 5$
3 $Curved surface area = π \times 3 \times 5$
4 $Curved surface area = 15π cm²$

Answer: 15π cm²
