Lesson 8 of 13

Term-to-term rules

Objective. Describe and continue a sequence using its term-to-term rule.

The key idea

A term-to-term rule says how to get from one term to the next. It needs a starting value to define the sequence completely.

Worked example

Continue 5, 8, 11, 14, …

5 … 8
Illustrated card showing 5 … 8
  1. 1Differences: 3 each time.
  2. 214 + 3 = 17, then 20.

Answer: 17, 20

Practice

Each question comes with a picture and a listen button. Try it first, then reveal the answer.
