The mean
Objective. Calculate the mean of a small set of values.
The key idea
The mean shares the total equally: add all values then divide by how many there are.
Worked example
Find the mean of 4, 7, 8, 9.
- 1Total: 4 + 7 + 8 + 9 = 28.
- 2Count: 4 values.
- 328 ÷ 4 = 7.
Answer: 7
