Percentage multipliers

Objective. Increase or decrease an amount using a single multiplier.

The key idea

An increase of 15% multiplies by 1.15; a decrease of 15% multiplies by 0.85. One multiplication replaces find-then-add.

Worked example

Increase £240 by 15%.
