Simplifying answers

Objective. Write a fraction in its simplest form.

The key idea

Divide numerator and denominator by their highest common factor. The value does not change — only the way it is written.

Worked example

Simplify 18/24.

  1. 1Factors of 18 and 24 share 6.
  2. 218 ÷ 6 = 3 and 24 ÷ 6 = 4.

Answer: 3/4
