Area and perimeter
Objective. Calculate area and perimeter of rectangles, triangles and compound shapes.
The key idea
Perimeter is the distance around the edge; area is the space inside. A rectangle's area is base × height; a triangle's is half of that.
Worked example
Find the area of a triangle with base 10 cm and height 6 cm.
- 1Area = ½ × base × height.
- 2½ × 10 × 6 = 30.
Answer: 30 cm²
