Reading scales
Objective. Read values from a scale where not every mark is labelled.
The key idea
Find two labelled marks, count the gaps between them and divide the difference by the number of gaps to get the size of one step.
Worked example
A scale shows 0 and 100 with 5 equal gaps. What is one step worth?
- 1Difference between labels: 100 − 0 = 100.
- 2Number of gaps: 5.
- 3100 ÷ 5 = 20.
Answer: Each step is 20
