Times table fluency
Lesson 7 of 10
Dividing with known facts
Objective. Use a times table fact to answer the matching division.
The key idea
Every multiplication fact gives two divisions. Because 6 × 7 = 42, both 42 ÷ 6 = 7 and 42 ÷ 7 = 6.
Worked example
Work out 63 ÷ 9.
- 1Ask: 9 times what gives 63?
- 29 × 7 = 63.
Answer: 7
Practice
Each question comes with a picture and a listen button. Try it first, then reveal the answer.
Common mistake. Swapping the divisor and the answer, e.g. saying 63 ÷ 9 = 9.
